HB Edit - Edition 5
Sharing the things on my ebay watch list that I don't have the space or money for, but wish I did.
It seems my ebay algorithm has not only been shaped by my own style, but by that of you, dear reader, too. The items that have sold so quickly and successfully before are re-surfacing while I search in new (old) and interesting forms, so there is still hope if you missed out on something before.
Red? Glossy? Made in Italy in the 1970s? It’s a yes from me. In a study, a child’s bedroom, or even in a small kitchen with a narrow wall in need of extra storage, these wall-hung shelves are extremely stylish. I can think of at least 3 places in my own home where I’d put them, so I’m sure you won’t struggle to house them either…
2. Pair of Metal Candle Sconces:
About every 6 weeks, during the winter, I have a bath. This Sunday was such a day for me, and it was bliss. One of the things I love most about it is lighting the candles in my pair of wall-sconces either side of the bath, and melting into the hot, hot water, surrounded by flickering candlelight. This pair have a somewhat 90s feel, and therefore are a bit ‘cooler’ than mine, but I love them.
(Edit: Rest assured, when I am not having a bath I am showering, daily)
I like the Le Manach weaves a lot. If I had pots of money, I would definitely use one of them in my house somewhere. When ordering directly, you can customise the colours, but I think this 5.3m piece is already made up in a scheme that I’d probably choose. It’s so smart, and all things considered, a good price.
This feels like an evolution of the tripod lamp I found last week… it’s a slightly more pleasing shape, and with it a slightly higher price tag. (I think the listing might be wrong; it says it’s circa 1900, but I’d say more like 1950s).
What can I say? These things just come to me. Another wrought iron and leather stool, and I’m still obsessed with it. Just so chic. No notes.
I know, this requires some creative thinking, but I am mesmerised by this desk/table. I had not seen a three-legged table of this kind before, and then I spotted a similar piece to the right of the fireplace in the recent cover story of House&Garden, featuring Virginia White’s enviable London home. With some serious TLC this could be absolutely beautiful. (Decorator friends, please tell me you have a project for this!?)
This needs wiring, but is such a smart Art Deco table lamp. Another great small lamp to sit within a bookshelf or beside a bed. I saw one very similar at the Battersea Decorative Fair in January for nearly 6 times the price…
This is a lot less glamorous than the usual content, but this original Victorian panelled door is currently listed for 0.99p… and there are 5 of them. Some builders may not be happy fitting doors that are not up to modern fire regulation standards, but if you can get away with it, this type of ‘original’ feature makes all the difference. My bathroom door was a similar steal, and the doors to my wardrobes came from ebay too.
Feature: for each edition, I will feature a person, object or room that inspires me.
While I have eagerly been adding to my Notes list of potential HB Edit ‘feature’ ideas, I haven’t written something more formalised this week. Instead, it is another look behind the iron curtain and into my Instagram saved folder.
It’s slowly revealing more of my previously secret interests and references (read: images of Princess Anne / The Queen Mother), but I hope you find them as visually pleasing as I do. Enjoy!
